The science of health demands a new standard

With more health products than ever before, it has never been harder to know what information to trust, which products to choose, and what solutions you really need.

Our mission is to change this by creating the most trusted place to discover curated, quality-assessed health & wellness products from around the world.

Scientific rigor is our guiding principle. Before it goes in your body, it goes through us.

How our curation process works

2

Evaluate

Each product then undergoes a comprehensive vetting process over a six-week period. This extensive time window allows us to delve into the details of each standard. Brands are ultimately signed off on by our review committee of leading doctors, scientists, and pharmacologists.

We evaluate products across 11 factors, here are a few of our most important:

2.1 Evaluate

Scientific Rigor

Products should have substantial evidence from peer-reviewed studies. We scrutinize the science to ensure the product is safe and effective. We review how long the supporting science has been around, the strength of the scientific advisory board (SAB) behind it, and the quality of the publishing scientific journal.

This also includes assessing the years of data; the number of supported peer-reviewed articles with large sample sizes and proper randomization (double-blind, placebo-controlled); meta-analyses where present; strong support from scientific experts; and whether studies were done primarily on humans vs animals vs in vitro.

2.2 Evaluate

Ingredient Quality

Supplements and wellness products are not regulated by the FDA, so we’ve created our own criteria for what’s considered safe versus not with a NO list to avoid supplements with toxic chemicals, microplastics, preservatives, flavors, colors and other provably harmful ingredients.

500+

Banned ingredients

We do the same for personal care and clean home products and so far have banned 500+ harmful ingredients from parabens, phthalates and oxybenzones – so that you know anything on the Superpower marketplace is a product you can trust.

Finally, we look at independent quality testing for purity, strength, identity, and disintegration from the most reputable sources on the internet including:

2.3 Evaluate

Manufacturing Standards & Sourcing

Manufacturing and sourcing standards are key to understanding product quality.

For supplements, we screen for designations such as CLIA, GMP, NSF, and FDA, which together help inform the quality of the manufacturing and sourcing process.

For food products, our screening extends to examining the quality of the ingredients and methods used in production, such as whether the food is grass-fed, processed vegetable oil free, and organic.

Beyond the products themselves, our holistic evaluation looks across the entire supply chain. We perform company background checks and ensure there are not concerns with products or their supply chains.

2.4 Evaluate

Price & Value

We have a deep commitment to balancing affordability with quality, and price with performance, ensuring that members receive excellent value in every product they order.

We measure product efficacy not just in numbers but also through the satisfaction of the broader customer universe, aiming for brands that have a substantial collection of genuine, positive customer reviews

2.5 Evaluate

Mission Alignment

The brand’s mission must supports or mirrors Superpower’s mission to bring preventative care to all and increase human lifespan and healthspan by preventing chronic disease through the pillars of environment, sleep, mental health, physical health, and nutrition.

Semaglutide Injection Default Title

The science of Semaglutide Injection

Active ingredients

Semaglutide is the primary active ingredient, which is the same as in commercial products like Ozempic and Wegovy. It’s a GLP-1 receptor agonist used to manage blood sugar levels and promote weight loss. Additional excipients, stabilizers and solvents are added to help with absorption.

Mechanism

Semaglutide is usually administered through subcutaneous injection. The specific dosage will be determined by healthcare professionals based on individual needs. Strict adherence to the prescribed administration guidelines is crucial for optimal results.

History

Semaglutide is a relatively recent addition to the class of medications known as GLP-1 receptor agonists, which are used primarily for treating type 2 diabetes and, more recently, obesity. Semaglutide was developed by the Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk. It is based on the GLP-1 hormone, which helps regulate blood sugar levels and appetite. In December 2017, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved semaglutide under the brand name Ozempic for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Recognizing the significant weight-loss benefits observed in clinical trials, Novo Nordisk pursued additional approval for semaglutide as a treatment for obesity, approved in June 2021 under the brand name Wegovy.

How do I use Semaglutide Injection?

Semaglutide is usually administered through subcutaneous injection. The specific dosage will be determined by healthcare professionals based on individual needs. Strict adherence to the prescribed administration guidelines is crucial for optimal results.

How does Semaglutide Injection effect my body?

Upon administration of Semaglutide injections, the body will absorb, distribute, metabolize and excrete Semaglutide, causing a chain of reactions focused on controlling your blood sugar levels. Semaglutide will primarily bind to plasma proteins, notably albumin. This will trigger activation of GLP 1 receptors throughout your body, contributing to a reduced appetite, improved insulin production, slowed emptying of your stomach & reduce the release of glucagon. The eventual excretion of Semaglutide occurs approximately 1 week after administration, supporting the use of a once-weekly dose.

Special Considerations

Before starting a Semaglutide program, it is important to note that it has a fairly high side effect profile and therefore each patient needs to be carefully monitored to ensure they are titrating up their dosage in a way that minimizes side effects. Caution is heavily advised if a patient has any pancreas issues, thyroid issues (in particular, thyroid cancer), eating disorders, history of depression or suicidal thoughts & any women who are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding.

How do I safely store Semaglutide Injection?

Semaglutide must be kept refrigerated at all times. Try store it away from food, or put it in a container to avoid cross contamination from any items in your fridge.

How long does it take to see results with Semaglutide therapy?

Everyone’s results will differ. Some people might only lose 1-5 lbs per month and some may lose 15-20 lbs per month. Also, keep in mind that it can take up to 2 months for the medication to fully absorb into your body. So, just have patience!

What do I do if I feel I have plateaued with my Semaglutide therapy?

If you feel you've plateaued with your semaglutide therapy, remember that plateaus are a natural part of any weight loss or metabolic control journey. Over time, your body may adapt to the changes, which can sometimes slow down progress. This is normal, and it doesn’t mean the medication isn’t working.

Semaglutide is designed to help with appetite control and glucose regulation, but it’s not a quick fix. It’s important to stay focused on your long-term goals and continue making healthy lifestyle choices, including regular physical activity and mindful eating. Feeling increased hunger or slower results may be your body adjusting to these changes.

If you're concerned, reach out to your clinical team—they can review your progress, assess your current dosage, and help you troubleshoot any factors that may be contributing to the plateau. Sometimes, a dosage adjustment or a renewed focus on lifestyle factors may be needed to get you back on track. Stay consistent, stay patient, and remember that sustainable results take time

What do I do if I need a higher dose of Semaglutide than is prescribed in the titration schedule?

We will prescribe up to a maximum of 2mg per week (as medically required). If you feel you need a higher dose, please contact your physician and we will adjust the amount we send you for your next 90 day supply. There will be no extra fee's incurred.

What does off-label usage mean?

Off-label usage refers to the practice of prescribing or using a medication, medical device, or treatment for a purpose that is not approved by regulatory authorities, such as the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in the United States. This means that the medication is being used in a manner or for a condition that is not specifically listed on its label or approved product information. Off-label usage may occur when healthcare professionals believe that the treatment may be beneficial for a particular condition, based on clinical judgment, research, or anecdotal evidence, even if it has not been formally approved for that specific use.

Am I a good candidate?

A good candidate for Semaglutide typically meets specific health criteria and has certain goals related to weight management or diabetes control. If you have a BMI of 27+, and also have weight-related health issues such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or sleep apnea are good candidates for Semaglutide therapy.

Important safety information

Potential Side Effects

Semaglutide has a fairly high side effect profile and therefore each patient needs to be carefully monitored to ensure they are titrating up their dosage in a way that minimizes side effects. Patients will need to be walked through all the potential side effects very carefully so they know what to expect.

Most Common:

  • Nausea
  • Diarrhoea
  • Constipation
  • Fatigue
  • GI Distress
  • Headaches
  • Abdominal pain / stomach discomfort

Less Common:

  • Allergic reaction to injection
  • Hair loss
  • Increased prevalence of suicidal thoughts
  • Sensitive skin (semaglutide skin)

Contraindications

  • Pancreatitis
  • T1D
  • Thyroid Cancer
  • Gallbladder Disease
  • Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2
  • Severe depression (history of suicide attempts, suicidal thoughts or self harm)
  • Eating Disorders
  • Pregnant or Breastfeeding

While a lot of these contraindications warrant further study, an extremely cautious approach is advised as we await further research to come out.

Drug Interactions

Not all interacting drugs are listed below. Only the drugs marked as a major interaction with Semaglutide are listed below. To see a full list, please click here.

Bexarotine: Using bexarotene together with semaglutide may increase the risk of pancreatitis, or inflammation of the pancreas.

Desflurane, Enflurane, Etomidate, Fospropofol, Halothane, Isoflurane, Ketamine, Methohexital, Methoxyflurane, Nitrous Oxide, Propofol, Sevoflurane, Thiopental: Increases the risk of regurgitation and pulmonary aspiration of gastric contents in patients undergoing general anesthesia due to delayed gastric emptying caused by stimulation of central nervous system GLP-1 receptors and vagal nerve activation. Pulmonary aspiration of regurgitated gastric contents during anesthesia may result in pneumonitis, aspiration pneumonia, other lung injury, and even death.

Gatifloxacin: Gatifloxacin can affect blood glucose levels and should not be used in patients with diabetes. Both hypoglycemia (low blood glucose) and, less frequently, hyperglycemia (high blood glucose) have been reported. Severe cases of hypoglycemia during treatment with gatifloxacin have resulted in coma and even death.
